Elijah House and the Story of Chris Porter
Published in Paperback by Essence Publishing (Canada) (October, 2002)
Author: Elinor Montgomery
Average review score:

These books...
were written in a two week period of time, and boy does it show. There is little plot and absolutly no research was done on the subjects covered. They are obvious Harry Potter rip off and the author apparently hopes to use them to furthur her pro-christain stance. Pure drivel.

Written in haste
Poorly written--not a real author. Not a very good book. I would not recommend.

Harry Potter-like...
The author chose to self puplish this book for a reason. It is a Harry Potter look-a-like that puts down Harry Potter and a religion. The Religion is modern witchcraft, commonly called Wicca. The author did not do any research on her books and it shows.
I hope that if Ms. Mongomery decides to write more books she will know better of what she speaks.

Silent Strength
Published in Paperback by Divine Designs (November, 1989)
Author: Linda Montgomery
Average review score:

Not what I expected.
As a friend of the author's family I purchased this book. I was under the impression it was a religious book of poetry. I found the images were very nice, but the poetry was self absorbed. Nature and spirituality are both beautiful, but not with the absence of Christianity. My book also is warped, but my pages are intact. A book by the same title Silent Strength: God's Wisdom for Daily Living by Loyd John Ogilvie is more like what I thought I was getting.

who is the book for?
The images are lovely, but the poems are all about the author. It feels a bit like a trophy book for the writer. "Look at me, I'm a photographer and a writer." I never felt included or involved in the poems, no place to relate. I also had trouble with my book falling apart, but no big deal, I taped it back together.

Faulty Binding
This book was beautiful, but before I could show it to friends, it fell apart. Not at all a coffee table book like it was intended. The hard back curled up and the pages fell out. First book I have ever thrown away.

Daybreak of Freedom: The Montgomery Bus Boycott
Published in Paperback by Univ of North Carolina Pr (October, 1997)
Author: Stewart Burns
Average review score:

Poor scholarship
This book is another example of "hands-off" scholarship in that it appears as if the editor never visited Montgomery but rather relied on secondary sources. Though there are numerous excerpts, the editor did not perform the necessary research which would have revealed (a) that the Boycott had its roots within the American labor movement and, more specfically, events which happened in Birmingham, Alabama, during the 1930s and (b) there probably still exists in the archives of the Montgomery Improvement Association or in at least one other place financial and other records not taken to the King Center which would have told an in-depth story using primary sources. In summary, in deciding whether to purchase this book---pass!

Dealing With Bible Problems: Alleged Errors and Contradictions in the Bible
Published in Paperback by Christian Literature Crusade (January, 2000)
Author: James Montgomery Boice
Average review score:

Less than helpfull
If you ask a child why they have blonde hair, they might respond with a simple 'because'. To the child this may be a perfectly reasonable response.

Such are the attempts of the good Dr. Boice in this book. The questions that are raised are answered with a childish depth and tend to raise more questions than they answer.

This is by no means a comprehensive work. The questions that Dr. Boice claims are the most common questions about the bible I have never heard of before.

In all, I believe that a total of seven questions are covered in this book. One of which is dismissed as being covered in a paper by another author (who has written the forward to this book), and being to lengthy to bother with in this book.

Very disappointing.

Indian Trail
Published in Paperback by Bantam Books (March, 1983)
Author: R. A. Montgomery
Average review score:

These books are crazy
You start reading a book and then it makes you make a decision. I have enough pressure cooking fries that when I sit down for a classic I don't want to be pressured into making a call.

Listening Made Easy: How to Improve Listening on the Job, at Home, and in the Community
Published in Paperback by AMACOM (October, 1984)
Author: Robert L. Montgomery
Average review score:

Origami skills
If you really think this book will help you become a better listener, then by all means, go ahead and read it. Otherwise, just consider the topic and use a little common sense. If this book somehow falls into your hands i'd suggest you use it to practice your origami skills--at least the paper used to print this on won't go to waste.

Painted Furniture: Making Ordinary Furniture Extraordinary With Paint, Pattern, and Color
Published in Hardcover by Bulfinch Press (April, 1999)
Authors: Katrin Cargill, David Montgomery, and Tabby Riley
Average review score:

Not the best on this topic
I love color. I love paint. I love decorating. This book is OK but it's one of those European imports, so the settings don't look quite right. And this book has been around awhile. I just found a new book on the subject called Painted Furniture, which is by the Better Homes and Gardens people. Painted Furniture has complete how-to, fresh color and styles, and it has settings and product lists that apply to American homes.
